Our Story
Bhamjee’s Shoe Centre began in 1940 when Mr Ahmed Bhamjee established a small shoe store in Vrededorp (Fietas) and built the business around integrity, perseverance, and strong community relationships. In 1968, his son Yousuf Ahmed Bhamjee joined and grew into the business, later partnering with his wife Fatima as they built both a family and the store’s future. In 1972 the family was forcibly removed from Vrededorp, relocated to Lenasia, and then given an opportunity to trade in the newly established Oriental Plaza in Fordsburg, where they continued rebuilding from 1974. In 1988 they were finally able to purchase their store, securing the legacy; today the business remains rooted in personal service, trusted values (“Your word is your bond”), and a wide range of footwear for men, women, and children.
